A Question of Metal or Plastic?

At NCI we have developed market-leading expertise and manufacturing capacity in both metal and plastic.

GM or Toyota? iPhone or BlackBerry? Everyone has a preference, but which is best?

Unless you are a car or a telecommunications expert, it’s hard to work out and even harder to find even-handed, trustworthy advice. Every supplier has an interest in convincing us that the product they sell is best.

Typically it’s the same with packaging. Which is best... metal or plastic?

Plastics manufacturers highlight the modern, flexible, consumer appeal of plastic, but will rarely point out the added costs incurred from its susceptibility to damage in the supply chain, or the environmental impact and likely carbon cost as a result of its limited capacity to be recycled.

While metal manufacturers will happily point out these weaknesses, and contrast them with their own robust metal product with its capacity to provide a total barrier and its infinite recyclability, they are unlikely to highlight the increased short-term costs of metal, its susceptibility to dents in the supply chain or the growing consumer preference for plastic.

The fact is each has their strengths and weaknesses. At NCI we have developed market-leading expertise and manufacturing capacity in both metal and plastic. We will advise you that the best packaging product is the one that is best for your application and is preferred by your customers.

As your product partner, our task is to help you present your product in the best possible way – regardless of which product we use to achieve this.
